Refined Lift. Elegant Assurance.

It is completely natural for the shape and position of the breasts to change over time. Factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, and gravity all contribute to a decrease in breast firmness, volume, and overall position. A breast lift, medically known as a mastopexy, is a highly effective surgical procedure designed to restore a more youthful, elevated breast contour—ultimately helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your body shape.

I am Dr. Leela, a Harvard Trained Plastic Surgeon, and I approach breast lift surgery with an emphasis on creating elegant, balanced, and natural-looking results. I will work closely with you to develop a personalized surgical plan that supports your aesthetic goals and elevates your curves in a tasteful, natural manner.

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

You may be an ideal candidate for a breast lift if you:

  • Have sagging or deflated breasts due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy.
  • Find that your nipples point downward or rest below the natural crease of the breast.
  • Feel a noticeable loss of shape or firmness in the upper portion of your breasts.
  • Experience breast asymmetry or uneven positioning.
  • Are in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations for the outcome.

It is important to understand that a breast lift primarily repositions and reshapes the existing breast tissue to create a perkier, more youthful contour; it does not typically change breast size. If you wish to alter your breast size (either increase or decrease), we can combine your lift with a breast augmentation or breast reduction, respectively. We will discuss all available options during your consultation to devise a personalized plan that best fits your goals.

Benefits of Breast Lift Surgery

Through careful tissue reshaping and gentle lifting, a breast lift restores a more balanced and youthful appearance. Key benefits include:

  • Lifting deflated or sagging breasts to a more elevated and natural position.
  • Repositioning the areola and nipple to achieve better, more youthful alignment.
  • Restoring a firmer, rounder breast contour.
  • Improving the appearance of upper breast fullness without increasing breast volume.
  • Enhancing overall breast symmetry and proportion.

This procedure is not about fundamentally changing who you are, but rather about reclaiming your natural shape and redefining what life's transitions, gravity, or time may have altered. During your consultation, I will listen to your goals, evaluate your anatomy, and create a surgical plan to restore your confidence and achieve a more lifted, elegant silhouette.

Leela Mundra - About the Procedure

About the Procedure

A breast lift involves surgically removing excess skin, meticulously reshaping the remaining underlying breast tissue, and repositioning the nipple-areola complex to a more natural, youthful height. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and usually requires about two to three hours.

There are two primary approaches to breast lift surgery:

  • Single-stage breast lift: I carefully place the incisions, reshape and elevate the breasts for a firmer, more natural contour, and complete any volume adjustment (augmentation or reduction) at the same time. I can also reduce the size of the areola during this stage if needed. This is the preferred approach for many patients and simplifies recovery to a single period.
  • Two-stage breast lift: In certain complex cases, a two-stage approach may be recommended to optimize safety and results. This involves performing the mastopexy first, allowing time for tissue healing and stabilization, before considering any additional volume changes with implants or further reshaping in a second surgery. This can offer greater precision and predictability, especially when significant lifting is required.

The ultimate result of breast lift surgery is a more balanced and youthful breast contour that better aligns with your feeling of being strong, confident, and vibrant.

Leela Mundra - Surgical Techniques

Surgical Techniques (Incision Patterns)

I utilize several different incision patterns during a breast lift, and the choice of technique is tailored to your breast shape, skin quality, and the degree of correction needed:

  • Periareolar Incision (Donut Lift): This involves a circular incision placed just around the edge of the areola. This technique is best suited for patients with mild to moderate sagging and results in the most minimal scarring.
  • Vertical (Lollipop) Incision: This combines the incision around the areola with a vertical incision running straight down to the breast crease. This pattern is commonly used for moderate sagging and allows for greater tissue reshaping than the periareolar approach.
  • Anchor (Inverted-T) Incision: This pattern adds a horizontal incision along the natural fold beneath the breast to the vertical pattern. This technique provides the greatest flexibility in contouring and is best for correcting more significant sagging, removing substantial excess skin, or achieving more comprehensive reshaping goals.

Your final surgical plan—whether single-stage or two-stage—will be fully customized based on your long-term preferences, aesthetic goals, and unique anatomy. Every decision is made with careful attention to achieving the most natural, long-lasting, and proportionate results while maintaining safety.

Recovery and Healing

Recovery after a breast lift is generally straightforward and many patients find it quite manageable. You will return home the same day and be encouraged to walk around gently. Mild discomfort, tightness, and swelling are normal and expected for the first one to two weeks. Most patients feel ready to return to light, non-strenuous work and activities within five to seven days, but rigorous upper body exercise and heavy lifting must be avoided for approximately four to six weeks. Your final shape will continue to refine as the swelling subsides over the next 6 to 12 weeks, and the surgical scars will gradually fade over time.

I will provide comprehensive support throughout your healing process, offering guidance on scar care, appropriate bra support, and how to maintain your results long-term.

Breast Lift FAQs

Will a breast lift change my breast size?

No. A breast lift primarily reshapes and elevates the existing breast tissue but does not typically add or remove volume. If you desire a fuller look, we can discuss combining the procedure with breast augmentation. Conversely, if you desire smaller breasts, we can integrate a reduction technique. Regardless of whether we change the size, I recommend a new professional bra fitting after your recovery to ensure your new shape is properly supported.

Can a breast lift be combined with other procedures?

Absolutely. Many patients choose to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation, breast reduction, or even with a tummy tuck as part of a Mommy Makeover. We will review all your available options during your consultation.

Will I lose nipple sensation?

While temporary changes in sensation are common immediately after surgery, most patients successfully retain normal nipple sensation after a breast lift. I take great care to preserve nerve integrity during this procedure.

Will I have visible scars?

All surgical breast lifts involve some degree of scarring, but I use incision patterns that are meticulously placed to be as discreet as possible, and they usually fade significantly over time. I will provide detailed scar care instructions and necessary follow-up to support optimal healing.

How long will the results of a breast lift last?

Breast lift results are generally very long-lasting, especially when a patient maintains a stable weight and adheres to good skin care practices. While natural aging will continue, most patients enjoy a more youthful and elevated breast shape for many years.
